The Loop App

We learned from research and our partner LINE that messenger apps are lacking in creative tools, especially for animation. Loop is an app that allows casual social users to create fun animated content in a quick and easy way. Loop was primarily meant as a Mini App integrated into LINE and other social media services, to empower users in Japan and Asia to share content seamlessly.

Problem

Messenger apps lack creative tools, especially for animation, limiting user expression.

Solution

Create a mini app that creates animated content, seamlessly within chat apps.

My Role

Identified the shift toward chat-based creation in Asia and reframed Adobe’s desktop-first mindset, defining a new opportunity to reach creators inside social platforms.

International Vision

Led the design of Loop from concept through launch, translating social behaviors into a purpose-built mobile creation experience.

Zero-to-One Leadership

Partnered with LINE to embed Loop directly into chat, aligning product, distribution, and platform constraints to launch Adobe’s first social-embedded app.

Strategic Partnership

How I Led This

While Adobe remained largely desktop-first, I began noticing a different creative behavior emerging across Asia—creation was happening inside chat platforms like LINE and WeChat, not standalone apps. After observing these ecosystems firsthand in China and Japan, I challenged the assumption that creativity always starts in dedicated design tools.

I proposed that Adobe should meet users inside the environments where they were already expressing themselves, and led the design of Loop, our first social-embedded creative mini app. This meant reframing who a “creator” is—from professional designers to everyday chat users—and redefining distribution as platform-native rather than app-based.

By partnering directly with LINE to embed Loop into their chat experience, we expanded Adobe’s reach into a new behavioral model and validated demand for lightweight, mobile-first creation. This was less about improving an existing product—and more about redefining where the next generation of creators already lived.

“The real shift wasn’t a new feature — it was where creation was happening.”

“He has a natural tendency towards mentoring young designers in their early careers and will go out of his way to help them find projects they can be creative in, and advocate for opportunities to let them shine.”

Reaching new users where they live

Loop is an App that allows casual users to create fun animated content in a quick and easy way. Loop is primarily meant as a Mini App integrated into social network services, and empowers users to share content seamlessly. Starting with LINE App in Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand, we developed the mini app as an embedded integration to be accessed seamlessly within the chat experience. Our goal was to reach 150 million new users in their social channel of choice with this innovative creative tool.

Outcomes

  • R&D: Created an all-new app to address the lack of creative tools for animation in messenger apps.

  • Partnership: Built a strategic with LINE App in Korea and Japan to collaborate on integration.

  • App Functionality: Loop enables casual users to quickly and easily create fun animated content.

  • Key Metric: Achieved a CSAT Score of 85%, exceeding our goal of 70% by 15 points.

  • Target Integration: Designed as a Mini App embedded in LINE and other social media services.

  • Primary Audience: Reached social users in Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand.
